Welcome, designer!
1. Getting started
- Brush up on any intro course on Design System to understand the basics. When you're ready, browse through the Zeroheight Docs to get familiar with the existing work. All the design resources are linked on this page.
- We recommend learning about how to use Design Tokens here and here.
- Reach out on the Slack channel if you need to meet with a mentor. See #3 How We Work.
- Learn by doing. Although we have mentors joining the project, there’s some skills pre-req for contribution. For example, if you need to learn Figma, do practice before doing any contribution work.
2. Main features of the system:
- Dynamic Theming using Figma Variables (a native feature in Figma) for documenting design data or the foundational visual language of the system: color, type, radius, spacing and shadow.
- We started up work on Light and Dark mode for backgrounds using Design Tokens, that was presented by Priyanka Thomas in 2024 Open Sprints event.
- How we work:
If you had joined post hackathon, and or virtually, you will be part of the Project Beagle squad.
- Onboard via this Slack link: https://join.slack.com/t/femmecubator/shared_invite/zt-2z78kzy3l-UBXRGh9DpND4fnhUDYTBbQ
- For async task-related communication, use the #os-project-beagle channel for questions
- If a cohort is active, join our bi-weekly sprint calls on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM EST.
- When working on Figma, ensure that you are communicating with the team when work is WIP or done and set up time for design reviews.
- Before design reviews, change your emoji status to indicate component work progress: Mark components based on status. For example: 🚧 Badge when in WIP or ✅ Button if completed.
- Add your initials next to a component while on WIP, ie. 🚧 Badge - KR
