Welcome, designer!
Equity-UI is a volunteer-run open source UI library that is servicing two social good projects that fall under the brands of Wesparkle and Femmecubator. This library was launched during the first Open Sprints Hackathon in NYC in 2024.
If you had joined as a contributor post hackathon, and/or virtually, you will be part of the Project Beagle squad. Devs built this on the Equity UI Storybook so you should be able to view some of of the working components live.
- Main features:
- Dynamic Theming using Figma Variables (a native feature in Figma) for documenting design data or the foundational visual language of the system: color, type, radius, spacing and shadow.
- We started up work on Light and Dark mode for backgrounds and the button component using Design Tokens, that was presented by Priyanka Thomas in 2024 Open Sprints event. [Video to be added]

- Learn by doing. Although we have mentors joining the project, there’s some skills pre-req for contribution. For example, if you need to learn Figma, do practice before doing any contribution work.

- For async task-related communication, use the #os-project-beagle channel for questions
- Join our bi-weekly sprint calls on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM EST if you need support
- Use emoji status to indicate component progress: Mark components as WIP (in progress) when you start working on them, and add your initials to show ownership.
For example: 🚧 Type - CC, when in work in progress state or ✅ Button if completed.
